Sustainable September was first co-convened in 2003 by Robyn Williams, Persistence of Vision (POV) inassociation with the WA Collaboration for Sustainability in 2003.

The release of the WA State Government’s Sustainability Strategy and the WA Collaboration’s Community Sustainability Agenda provided the impetus to celebrate the many actions taken by ordinary people and forward thinking organisations all around the Western Australia.

Sustainable September is guided by a Steering Committee including Persistence of Vision and WA Collaboration which includes:

• Council of Churches
• WA Council of Social Services
• Ethnic Communities Council
• Environmental Alliance
• Unions WA
• Department of Environment and Conservation

Funded on the smell of an oily rag, this not-for-profit communication campaign draws attention to and celebrates environmental, social and economic sustainability in action. It’s been three steps forward and one step back for Sustainable September since its inception.

Now it seems that the climate is right!
